Better Policies for a Better Kansas

Education

An educated and skilled workforce attracts business and industry and raises everyone’s standard of living. Economic development begins in school.

Our youth need specialized education to prepare for the future. Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Auto-mated Systems, Satellite Technology, Driverless Vehicles, Drones, Lidar and Hydrogen Fuel Cells, will play a large role in their lives. Let’s not fear the future, let’s prepare for it.

Some children in Kansas are captives of an education system controlled by politically charged teachers unions and activist teachers. Education time is used to indoctrinate our youth to serve a political agenda. Gender, pronouns, LGBTQ, climate change, critical race theory, diversity equity inclusion, etc.

Gender is specific to language. There are two genders, masculine and feminine. There are two sex-es, male and female. One cannot change their sex, surgically or otherwise. Educators should not be indoctrinating our children. Words have meaning that cause action. Whoever controls the language controls the culture.

God controls the climate, not man. God created Heaven and earth and only God can “save” or destroy the planet. Our children should not be exposed to false teachings designed to create fear to further a political agenda.

We can Improve the education system by giving parents more control and more options. Parents know their children best. School vouchers and education cooperatives give parents the power and choices they need to guide their children’s education. Some think they know what’s best for you and your family. I think you know what’s best for you and your family.

Healthcare

Healthcare: How do we bring down the cost of healthcare? The same way you bring down the cost of anything; up front pricing and competition.

Healthcare is a business, it’s not sacred and should not be a mystery. Pre-tax health savings accounts should be available to all, regardless of their health plan. Conglomerate medical groups own the hospitals and the doctors, and they make huge profits. Health-care cooperatives would create competition. Let’s educate Kansans. Knowledge is power.

Jobs & Economy

The 54th district includes Southern Shawnee County and Northern Osage County. We are blessed with a strong agricultural economy and light industry in our district, but our small-town economies are stagnant. Our small towns have several unused commercial buildings in need of repair. The city and county employees in Osage County are underpaid, especially law enforcement.

The key to economic growth is bringing in money from outside our region. We can improve the Southern Shawnee County economy by making Forbes into a high-tech industry hub and mak-ing it a working regional airport. Flights to cities like Denver, Des Moines, Omaha, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Springfield and Little Rock would create good jobs and economic growth opportunities.

Osage County has several opportunities for growth, without changing the lifestyle residents enjoy. Osage County has two large lakes, the Santa Fe Trail and several small towns right out of a Norman Rockwell painting. Osage County is within a two-hour drive of three million people. City folks like to spend their weekends in the country. Osage County could be a family-friendly weekend getaway destination that brings in revenue.

People from surrounding areas drive through our region for Chiefs, Royals, NASCAR and other events. They come to K.C. a day or two before the event. Let’s offer these travelers a memorable stop off before or after the event. We can work with tour bus companies to include our region as part of a Chiefs or Royals weekend package. Some ideas could include:

     •    A night in a teepee village on the Santa Fe Trail or one of our lakes/waterways.

     •    A soap box derby on the hills of Carbondale.

     •    A night in an old west style hotel in Burlingame, where there are vacant commercial buildings that could be converted into old west theme hotels.

     •    Trail Town; let’s turn four corners into Trail Town.

     •    Trail Days, Norman Rockwell Days, street dances and festivals.

In the future we will work less. The four-day work week is just around the corner. Artificial intelli-gence and automation will create efficiency. Efficiency creates wealth. More time and money will result in increased travel and leisure. Osage County has the location and resources necessary to benefit from increased travel & Leisure. Weekend visitors leave their money and take away great memories without changing our lifestyle.

I will work with city, county, state and federal officials all year long to improve our economy, not just when the legislature is in session.
